Hayon Michelle Choi was funded to be 2020 Environmental Justice and Health Initiative Student Research Fellow for her future study on health disparities of urban heat island effect by the Yale School of the Environment. She plans to quantify the risks of death associated with the urban heat island (UHI) among various socioeconomic backgrounds. Her study aims to explore potential effect modifications and identify the health disparities among various regions and ethnicity. This work will lay the foundation to consider different concepts of urbanization, studying the various population inside the urban environment, and analyze how one’s neighborhood affects health.
